The city of Green Bay is the county seat of Brown County within the State of Wisconsin, in the USA. The city is located at the head of Green Bay which is a sub-basin of Lake Michigan and is situated at the Fox River. The city has an elevation of 177 m or 581 feet above sea level. The city of Green Bay is situated 112 miles or 180 km north of the city of Milwaukee. Based on the census of the year 2010, the city had a population of 104,057. There is a Town of Green Bay which is situated several miles northeast of the city of Green Bay. The city of Green Bay is the 3rd biggest city within Wisconsin State, after Milwaukee and Madison. Also, it is the third largest city on lake Michigan's west shore, coming in after the city of Chicago and the city of Milwaukee.

The area along the Fox River where it empties into Green Bay became a natural stopping place for the French voyagers, woodland Indian tribes, fur trappers and Jesuit missionaries as far back as the 17th century. In 1634, this are became the very first settlement of Wisconsin, 14 years after the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock.
The area was initially settled by the French, before being driven out in 1763 by the British. The British maintained the area until after the war of the year 1812. This region was a major fur trading center. The fur trading industry had given way to lumbering by the time Wisconsin acquired its statehood during 1848. During the year 1895, the very first paper mill was constructed. This established a staple business which is presently still a strong part of the economy.
The borough of Green Bay was formed in 1838 and later consolidated along with Fort Howard in the year 1895 to make Green Bay. Green Bay's meat packing business of the 1920s provided a name for the local football team that was called the Green Bay Packers. Eventually, they became 1 of 2 charter teams of the NFL or National Football League.
